ATCHISON, Kan., July 1, 2014—An array of nutritional food ingredients were showcased by MGP at the 2014 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting and Food Expo in New Orleans, June 22-24. The event was attended by several thousand representatives of food and beverage manufacturing companies from around the world.

“Food industry trends driven by nutritional needs will play a key role in the development of products to feed the world now and in the decades to come,” said Mike Lasater, vice president of ingredients sales and marketing. “With a portfolio of specialty proteins and starches that deliver nutritious solutions, as well as desired functional and sensory qualities, MGP is positioned to assist our customers in effectively meeting such needs across a wide range of applications.”

Focusing on the theme, “adding more goodness to food,” MGP featured ingredient innovations for aiding in fiber enhancement, protein enrichment, sodium reduction and other topical health-related solutions. A fiber- and protein-enriched nutritional beverage containing MGP’s Fibersym® RW resistant wheat starch and Optein® lightly hydrolyzed wheat protein were among product samples served. Others were fiber-enhanced bakery goods made with Fibersym RW, and high protein pasta made with Optein and paired with a reduced sodium sauce made with Midsol™ 46 specialty wheat starch.

Other ingredients highlighted included the company’s Arise® wheat protein isolates and TruTex® textured wheat proteins. The Arise line provides cost effective, highly functional alternatives for egg-based proteins. TruTex offers excellent choices for creating protein-enhanced vegetarian products.

“MGP was very pleased to feature these ingredients at this year’s IFT Food Expo,” Lasater said. “We received much positive feedback about the benefits and quality of the products we presented during the three-day event.”
